our work Masterplanning
Al Falah, Abu Dhabi
GHM were asked by Aldar properties to masterplan a new community in Abu Dhabi containing approximately 4800 new villas, 3000 townhouses, 3300 apartments and a town centre consisting of a major retail and commercial centre. The project has been commissioned by The Government of Abu Dhabi, predominantly for the use of UAE Nationals. This project forms part of a wider Government initiative to create more social housing for the local population.
The masterplan for Al Falah is designed to provide full community facilities and extensive social housing opportunities for Emirate citizens. It will also provide integrated retail, commercial, educational, health and leisure uses for the town. The masterplan will provide five separate villages and a Town Centre. All of these will provide a high quality of life for its residents with well-designed places, attractive public realm, built environment, parklands and landscape.
The overall vision is for the construction of a new town. GHM considered it important that the design of the town be modern and embrace innovative and new technologies while still reflecting Islamic traditions. In addition, a major aim of the design is to help engender a strong sense of community, which, in turn will give it a strong identity. The desire of GHM was that the community would be demonstrably sustainable and to this end the masterplan of the town is capable of evolving and accommodating social and cultural change. Lastly the town should have a strong design concept as its basis.
GHM were lead designers architects & masterplanners for the town. GHM also had responsibility for the roads & infrastructure concept design.
The project is due to go on site in 2010.
