our work Residential

North Fort Street

Budget: £1.7 Million

North Fort Street, Edinburgh

The five-storey building consists of 20 flats. The site was developed for affordable social rented housing, and is owned and managed by Castle Rock Edinvar. The four ground floor main door flats (20%) are designed to be fully accessible to wheelchair users, with private gardens.

All other flats are accessed through 2 common close stairs with full height glazing and there are 4 elderly/amenity flats. The flats are designed to satisfy “Housing for Varying Needs” as well as “Lifetime-Homes” standards and are “Secure By Design” accredited.

The project achieves a density of 90 units per hectare. The contemporary design, with its references to local characteristics, and the carefully planned external space, have created a building with a distinctive character, which provides cost effective, quality places for people to live.
